Although a robust tradition existed before then, the inspiration for contemporary Japanese koto music have been formed during the seventeenth century. This koto, with it copious inlay and memorable metalwork by Teijo, ninth grasp and perhaps most skilled member of the well-known Goto family of metalwork artists, documents this important musical improvement.
